SELMA, TX—JULY 11, 2018—A total of 104 state-bred 2-year-olds, topped by the graded stakes placed Capitan De La Playa, has been entered in Friday’s 350-yard Texas QHA Sale Futurity (RG3) trials at Retama Park.

A gelded son of Captain Courage trained by Angel Sanchez for owners Roberto Hernandez and Augustin Hernandez, Capitan De La Playa will be making his first start since March 21, when he ran third, two lengths behind winner Going Noble, in the 300-yard, $238,000 Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity (G3) at Louisiana Downs. Capitan De La Playa drew the rail post and will be ridden by Jose I. Martinez in the fifth of 11 trials.

Guerras Racing Stables’ Shapeshifter drew post 9 and will be ridden by Luciano Duenez in the third heat. Trained by Jorge Luis Muniz, the brown daughter of Mighty B Valiant will be stretching out in distance off of her third-place finish in the 330-yard, $112,000 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs on May 12.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 28, $100,000-added TQHA Sale Futurity final.
