SELMA, TX—JULY 4, 2018—A full field of 10 distaffers has been entered in Friday’s opening-night feature at Retama Park, the 350-yard, $15,000 Selma Stakes.

Sugars First Love, a graded stakes placed 3-year-old daughter of champion Tempting Dash, will be facing older runners for the first time. Trained by Trey Wood for owners Randy and Sandy Coleman, the filly ships in from Remington Park, where she ran second, a half of a length behind winner La Vencedora, in the 350-yard, $218,000 Oklahoma Derby (G3) on March 24.

Sugars First Love drew post 9 and will be ridden by Russel Hadley.

The Selma Stakes is the first of 16 Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for the Retama meet, which runs through Wednesday, September 5. The season’s richest stakes, the 350-yard, $100,000-added TQHA Sale Futurity (RG3) for state-bred 2-year-olds, will be run Saturday, July 28.
