SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 1, 2018—The first Quarter Horse Stakes of the 2018 Canterbury Park meet kick off on Sunday, June 3 with the Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity and the North Star State Stakes.

The card begins with the 350-yard $26,780 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity. The race is restricted to horses that are sired by stallions that participated in the 2015 MQHRA Stallion Service Auction.

Haute Wagon, with Marcus Swiontek aboard, has been installed as the post-time favorite (9-5). The Wagons West gelding is out of the Timeto Get Tuff mare Chics Time to Fling; he was bred in Minnesota by owner Shelly Berkner.

Trained by Vic Hanson, Haute Wagon is one of the more experienced horses in the field and will be making his third lifetime start. He debuted at Remington Park and broke his maiden in his most recent start, at Canterbury, earlier this month. His maiden-breaking win was at the same distance as Sunday’s final: 350 yards.

The Sizzlelizer is the lukewarm second choice on the morning-line at 4-1; the son of Sizzlin Cartel finished third behind Haute Wagon in their last start. Brayan Velazquez has the call for trainer Randy Weidner and owner Tyler Stein.

The $26,780 Minnesota Stallion Breeders’ Futurity is Race 1 on Sunday at Canterbury Park. Estimated post time is 12:55 pm CT.
