SHELBYVILLE, IN—MAY 31, 2018—Seven trials for the Gordon Mobley Futurity and the Jaguar Rocket Futurity will dominate the eight-race card that kicks off the first all-Quarter Horse racing night of 2018 at Indiana Grand.

The Mobley trials are slated as the first four races on the card with the Jaguar Rocket trials taking center stage in races five through seven. First post for the evening is 6:05 p.m.

Of the 34 two-year-olds entered for the Mobley Futurity trials, only two have visited the winner’s circle. Stoneburner from the Randy Smith barn will kick off the action in the first Mobley trial in race one.

The Brimmstone gelding, owned by Gerald Keesling was a winner in his racing debut May 9 to break his maiden in a time of :15.926 in the 300-yard dash. Stoneburner will be ridden by Jose Beltran from post four and is the even favorite of the nine-horse lineup.

Also coming into the race off a win is the impressive Nachito Coronel from the Ricardo Martinez barn. The sorrel Habits Secret gelding won his maiden event the same night as Stoneburner in a time of :16.153 seconds. Nachito Coronel is owned by Patricia De Rocio Lopez and will be ridden by Sergio Ramirez from post eight at odds of 2-5 in the eight horse lineup.

Eyem Yur Sixes and Shanley Jackson will be looking for their first win from post nine in the second trial for the Mobley Futurity. At odds of 7-5, the Sixes Liaison gelding was impressive in his first start at Indiana Grand, finishing second to Stoneburner. Owned by Brian Gunder, Eyem Yur Sixes had one start at Remington Park in mid March before coming into Indiana Grand to the Erin Thompson barn for the racing season.

Coronado’s Quiksilver, with Beltran aboard, will be one of the horses to watch in the Jaguar Rocket Futurity trials. Starting from post six in the first of three trials, the Coronado Cartel filly turned in an impressive racing debut May 16 to break her maiden by the margin of one length in a time of :15.643 seconds. Owned and bred by Gordon Timm of Michigan, Coronados Quiksilver is the strong favorite of the fifth race at odds of 9-5 for trainer Randy Smith.

Smith also has the favorite in the sixth race as he will saddle Daddys Moe, who has been assigned post nine. The only start for the Carters Cartel gelding was a near miss for the win, finishing a head back behind Dominyun Cartel, who will run in the fifth race trial against Coronados Quiksilver as the second choice on the board. Daddys Moe, owned and bred by Rose Bode, will be ridden by Beltran and will begin at odds of 9-5.

The fourth running of the Gordon Mobley Futurity Final, with an estimated purse of $150,000, is slated for Saturday, June 16. It will be joined by the fifth running of the Jaguar Rocket Futurity final with an estimated purse of $100,000.

The eight-race card is the first of six offered during the 2018 racing season for all Quarter Horse racing at Indiana Grand. Other dates include July 7, Aug. 11, Sept. 15, Oct. 6 and Oct. 27. All Quarter Horse dates are Saturday evening events with a first post time of 6:05 p.m.
