LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 30, 2018—Superstar filly J Fire Up posted her first workout since her record setting championship campaign of 2017 when she worked 220 yards in :12.30 on Wednesday morning at Los Alamitos.

It was the filly's first recorded move since winning the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on December 17, a victory that made her the highest money earning filly in a single season in the history of Los Alamitos Race course.

J Fire Up is beginning her preparations to race in trials to the Governor's Cup Derby on Sunday, July 15. The Governor's Cup Derby is one of the marquee races on California Breeders Champions Night to be held on Saturday, July 28.

"J Fire Up posted a beautiful work," said Jaime Gomez, who bred and trains the daughter of Kiddy Up. "We're pointing her to the Governor's Cup Derby and we also plan to supplement her to the (Grade 1) Los Alamitos Super Derby. If all goes well, that's our plan with this filly. I will breeze her at 300 yards in probably two to three weeks and then we'll give her a good gate work at 350 yards before the trials."

Also the winner of the Golden State Million Futurity and Governor's Cup Futurity, J Fire Up earned a record $1,430,411 in 2017. Owned in partnership by Gomez, Ernesto Solis, and Darling Farms, the daughter out This Boogie Fires underwent minor surgery after winning the Los Alamitos Two Million.

"She had very minor chips in each of her ankles and one tiny chip in her knee," Gomez added. "They never bothered her, but since we were going to give her some time off we decided that it would be best to take care of them now. It was just a cleanup, a maintenance. She's doing great."

Another recent AQHA champion to work at Los Alamitos is 2015 World Champion Heza Dasha Fire, who posted a :12.30 turn and work at 220 yards on May 5. Owned by S-Quarter K Racing, the son of Walk Thru Fire has not raced since running second to 60-1 longshot Mr Pyc To You in the Champion of Champions on December 16.

"He looked great and it was great to see him out there beginning to prepare for a race," trainer Jose Flores said. "We still have some time to go before he runs, but we're looking at either the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship on July 28 or the Bank of America California Challenge Championship on August 11. The Bank of America Challenge Championship final will be held at Los Alamitos this year and it features a really nice purse. It's an interesting option for Heza Dasha Fire."

The now 6-year-old gelding has won 15 of 21 career starts and has earned $2,167,987. He's won eight Grade 1 stakes races at Los Alamitos during his brilliant career.
