SHELBYVILLE, IN—MAY 3, 2018—Several of Indiana’s top Quarter Horse stars will go head to head in the $20,000 Indiana Bred Allowance slated as the ninth race Tuesday, May 8. The race marks the return of five horses with six-figure purse earnings and year-end honors from the past two seasons.

Heading the list of horses making their 2018 racing debut is Keen Liaison, trained by Erin Thompson. The four-year-old daughter of Sixes Liaison won five of six starts last season to be named Indiana’s top three-year-old filly.

With earnings of nearly $150,000, Keen Liaison was also nominated for an AQHA Racing Champions year-end award which was held at Heritage Place in Oklahoma in January. The talented filly takes on the older horses from post 10 and is reunited with Jockey Ronald Hisby in the 10-horse lineup for owner James Black of Ohio.

Joining Keen Liaison as a horse to watch in the race is 2017 Three-Year-Old Colt/Gelding of the Year in Indiana HH Kentucky Krome. The blazed face son of La Jollaroid picked up three wins last season, including the $84,000 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby. Owned by Larry Carter and John Myers, who are also the breeders, HH Kentucky Krome starts from post seven with Gerardo Garrido aboard.

Another contender in the $20,000 Indiana Quarter Horse allowance making his first start of the season is Beach Bum Eddie, who established a new track record for 300 yards last season. Owned and trained by Tony Cunningham, the now five-year-old Escondido Beach gelding will start from post three with Cesar Esqueda aboard.

Rounding out the field of stakes winners is Beach Cartel (post five) and CB Come Fly With Me (post six). Beach Cartel has won year-end honors in Indiana the past two seasons for owner Sheri Miller and trainer Randy Smith.

The Escondido Beach six-year-old will be ridden by Jose Beltran. CD Come Fly With Me, Indiana’s top two-year-old in 2016 will make her first start of the season for owner-breeder Carolyn Bruce and trainer Matt Frazier. Shanley Jackson gets the call aboard the Desirio mare, who has earnings in excess of $224,000.

The entire field, in post position order with jockey, includes:

  1. The Cartel Concept (Fernando Fonseca-Soto)
  2. Tru Lee Quick (Andres P. Ulloa)
  3. Beach Bum Eddie (Cesar Esqueda)
  4. Fish Head (Luis Guerrero)
  5. Beach Cartel (Jose Beltran)
  6. CB Come Fly With Me (Shanley Jackson)
  7. HH Kentucky Krome (Gerardo Garrido)
  8. RC Sizzling Tyme (Natasha Fritz)
  9. Sicario (Cristian Esqueda)
  10. Keen Liaison (Ronald Hisby).

Estimated post time for the race is 5:49 p.m (EDT).

The 16th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 7. Racing is conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. EST with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m. EST.
