BOSSIER CITY, LA-JANUARY 23, 2018-Horsemen at Harrah's Louisiana Downs are filling the entry boxes and nominating plenty of stakes runners for the 2018 Quarter Horse meet.

The $15,000 Swift Stakes, at 350 yards overfilled, so racing secretary David Heitzmann added a second division. Both will be run on Saturday, January 27, along with the $25,000 Party Girl Stakes for accredited Louisiana-bred fillies and mares.

In the first division of the Swift Stakes, to be run as race five, Strong Guns, owned by Carlos Acuna, will break from post position four as the 3-1 morning line choice. The 6-year-old son of Strong Hope was an impressive winner in the $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Classic (G2) at Fair Grounds on December 9.

"This may be a little short for him as he ran a huge race at 440-yards in New Orleans," said trainer Robert Meche. "He's fresh and doing well. We're hoping he can get out the gate like he did on Louisiana Champions Day."

Raul Ramirez, Jr. who won the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes last Saturday at Louisiana Downs, has the call. Post time is 1:00 pm (Central) with the first division to run as race five.

Eye N Capo, owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, leads the field in the second division of the Swift Stakes. The Oklahoma-bred son of Capo de Capi is the high earner in the field with $374,860 banked in nine career starts. Josue Ponce trains the 4-year-old and will give a leg up to current Louisiana Downs leading rider, Damian Martinez.

La Mos Corona Faces Seven in the $25,000 Party Girl Stakes

The 13th running of the $25,000 Party Girl Stakes for accredited Louisiana-bred fillies and mares will run as the sixth race of Saturday's card. Several of the entrants have squared off recently, including La Mos Corona and Punctuality, who finished in a dead-heat last month in a $17,500 allowance at Evangeline Downs.

Manuel Alvarez's La Mos Corona, a 4-year-old daughter by Coronas Leaving You is trained by Orlando Orozco and is going for her fourth win in a row. Her dam, La Mos Chingono was a multiple-stakes winner owned by Oscar Rhone. Jockey Floriberto Maldonado has the return call on the 2-1 morning line favorite.

"She has a good heart and I'm looking for another solid effort from her," said Orozco. "She pulled up fine after the race at Evangeline and Floriberto has done a great job with her."

In addition to Punctuality, a Jet Black Patriot mare, who will break from the far outside under Damian Martinez, Sweet Bru is also a contender in the 350-yard stakes. The 5-year-old mare, trained by Gary Shane Mason, has a perfect two-for-two record at Louisiana Downs.

Louisiana Downs Dates and Post Times

The 2018 Quarter Horse racing season at Harrah's Louisiana Downs got underway on Saturday, January 6. The 46-day meet includes 12 stakes highlighted by the first official championship for 2-year-olds, the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity on March 17. Live racing will take place Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 p.m. (Central) post time and will continue through March 21.
