Los Alamitos Kicks Off Year-Round Meet With 8-Race Program On Friday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 28, 2017—The 68th racing season at the Citadel of Speed – Los Alamitos Race Course – gets underway on Friday night with solid fields featured throughout the eight-race card.

First post is 7 p.m. with a pair allowance events set as the co-feature events of the night.

The racing season will continue on Saturday night with no racing scheduled on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, December 31. Live year-round racing resumes on Friday night, January 5 with live racing continuing at Los Alamitos on a Friday through Sunday night basis.

Night racing’s best bets – the Los Alamitos early and late Pick Fours – will highlight the racing programs at the Orange County track.

A pair of eight horse fields and a pair of seven horse fields will be in the spotlight during the Los Alamitos’ early Pick Four sequence on opening night, with the wager kicking off with the first race on the card.

The second race will have Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds squaring off in a $12,000 allowance at 870 yards. Robert Bodenbender’s Sakab, who scored a 7-¼ lengths maiden win on November 4, will take on Daniel Ray’s Cal Cal Li Gowchis, whose last two outings were good efforts during the daytime meet at Los Alamitos for trainer Charles Treece.

The late Pick Four, which has grown to become an equally popular a wager at Los Alamitos - will have 29 horses racing as part of its four-race sequence. A wide-open field of nine juveniles will take part in the eighth race of the card, which is the final leg of the late Pick Four.

The main event in this sequence is an $11,325 allowance for 2-year-olds at 350 yards. The field will be headed by Ron Hartley’s Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity finalist Black Fryday, who looks to make amends after finishing out of the money in his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on November 26. Live racing will be held at Los Alamitos through Sunday, December 16, 2018.
