LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 23, 2017—KVN Corona and J Fire Up, the top 2-year-old colt and filly, respectively, in California this year, will highlight the trials to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on Sunday.

Eighty-three juveniles will race in the trials with the horses with the 10 fastest times moving on to the futurity final on the meet's closing day, Sunday, December 17. Owned by Keith Nellesen of Utah, KVN Corona is named after current New England Patriots star outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy, a former of BYU Cougar. Unbeaten in all five of his career starts, KVN Corona will be in action in the fourth of 10 trials on Sunday. Ramon Sanchez will pilot the colt by Corona Cartel from post number seven for trainer Paul Jones.

"We skipped the Golden State Million Futurity trials to come into these trials fresh," Jones said. "He’s been training great. He’s been a perfect horse all year long. He’s been a thrill to train. I also have King of Appeals in the fourth trial. I usually don’t like to have two of my best 2-year-olds draw in the same trial, but hopefully they both run well and make it to the final."

KVN Corona beat J Fire Up by a head in the Ed Burke Million Futurity on June 18 and recently won the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity on September 7.

Darling Farms, Jaime Gomez, and Ernesto Solis' J Fire Up is a two-time futurity winner this year as well. After running second in the Ed Burke, the Kiddy Up filly won the Governor's Cup Futurity on July 29 and then scored in the Golden State Million Futurity by a hair over Matilda Czech on November 5. She's won five of seven starts this year.

KVN Corona’s trial features the top three finishers in the $400,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. In addition to winner KVN Corona, this trial will also feature Steve Burns’ Just Walk By, the runner-up in the futurity, and Ron Hartley’s three-time futurity finalist The Revenant, who finished third in the PCQHRA Breeders final.

Trained by John Cooper, the Favorite Cartel gelding also ran third in the Governor’s Cup and finished nicely to grab sixth place in the Golden State Million Futurity. Cesar De Alba will ride him from post six. Steve Burns’ Just Walk By won her Golden State Million trial and her bloodlines are outstanding. She’s a half-sister to Grade 1 stakes winners Little Talks and Rock You and a full to new California-based stallion and stakes winner Fly Thru The Fire.

The sixth trial is one of the strongest of the night as it will feature three Golden State Million finalists headed Matilda Czech, who missed winning the race by a whisker. Trained by Valentin Zamudio for EG High Desert Farms, Matilda Czech was third at the start before flying late to almost upset J Fire Up in the final. She would have been the winner if the Golden State Million was another yard or two farther. Cruz Mendez gets the call on Matilda Czech. This trial will also feature Parsons Ranch’s A Political Lady, the third place finisher in the Golden State Million, and Dutch Masters III and Jaime Gomez’s Famous N Hot, who was sixth in that big race.

The opening trial will be headed by A Political Lady’s stablemate, Terrific Temptation, who in her last start finished third to Golden State Million finalists Unblemished and Famous N Hot. Stakes winners California Eagle and Tustin Kid and Golden State Million trial winner Fyrefly Jo will headline the third trial, while Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity winner Fire And Sass and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalist La Rusa head the fifth trial.

Golden State Million finalists Remember To Dash and Unblemished will head the seventh heat, while two other Golden State Million finalists - Call Me Cole in race eight and Black Fryday in the 10th and final - will also race on Sunday. All in all, nine out of the 10 Golden State Million finalists will take part in the Two Million trials.

There is one other futurity winner that will also race on Sunday, as Lisa Anderson’s Wild West Futurity winner Moonie Blues will head the ninth trial. This trial will also feature a pair of Kindergarten finalists in the form of Summertime Favorite, who finished third, and Shangrilalala, who finished fourth.
