HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 3, 2017—Cobalt Creek, a Grade 1-winning 5-year-old son of Walk Thru Fire owned by VWP Jr Inc., is the 7-2 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s 400-yard, $50,000 Lovington Stakes (G2) at Zia Park.
Cobalt Creek ships in from Texas, where the sorrel gelding scored a neck victory in the 440-yard, $75,000 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park on October 7. Cobalt Creek drew post 8 and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez for trainer John Stinebaugh.
Other contenders include Bujanda Racing Stables’ Once Over, an 8-year-old Walk Thru Fire gelding trained by Jose Luis Marquez. Once Over will be stretching out in distance off of his neck win in the 350-yard, $50,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G3) at Zia Park on September 17.
Once Over drew post 4 and will be ridden by Raul Herrera.
