Champion Of Champions Winners Returns To Action On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 1, 2017—Jim Walker’s Zoomin For Spuds, the winner of the 2016 Champion of Champions, is back in action for the first time in nearly four months when he heads the $12,300 allowance feature on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

The 350-yard race is scheduled as the ninth and final race on the card.

To now be ridden by Cody Jensen for trainer Monty Arrossa, Zoomin For Spuds will be looking for his first win in four starts this year. p> The son of Zoomin For Bux won six stakes races in 2016 headed by the prestigious Champion of Champions in upset style over the great Heza Dasha Fire.

Wins have been tougher to come by for Zoomin For Spuds this year, but he did run second to BH Lisas Boy in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship on February 19 and also qualified to the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity on July 2.

He has not raced since running ninth in the Vessels Maturity, but enters this race after a solid :12.30 gate works at 220 yards on October 14. Zoomin For Spuds was named the PCQHRA Horse of the Year and AQHA champion 3-year-old gelding in 2016.

Ron Hartley’s My Favorite Chick, winner of the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes and runner-up in the PCQHRA Breeders Derby last year, and major stakes finalists Firing Tools, You Can Fly and Chicks Fayvorite will also race. Apollitical Gamble completes the field.
