Strong Second Day Pushes TQHA Yearlings Numbers Up - CORRECTION

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 31, 2017—A bevy of six-figure yearlings consigned by Bobby D. Cox on day 2 of the 20th annual TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio Saturday helped the sale post a 19% gain in gross sales compared to last year.

The two-day sale ended today (Saturday) with 197 of 298 Texas-bred yearlings offered grossing $2,848,100 compared to $2,396,600 on 170 head sold in 2016. The average increased to $15,230, a 8% gain over the 2016 average of $14,098. The median sale price fell 1% from $8,750 a year ago to $8,200 in 2017.

Dillon Lane purchased the sale topper, Hip 284 Sunnysyde for $160,000. The half-brother to Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity winner's Duponte and Nymeria is by leading 2017 2-year-old sire Heza Fast Dash. Bobby D. Cox was the consignor.

Lane also purchased the second high-seller Hip 247 Sygnified for $102,00. Cox bred the Tempting Dash colt from his Grade 1 winner and Grade 1 producer Jess Significant by Mr Jess Perry.

Ranco La Cobra paid $100,000 for Hip 242 Zimmerli, a Cox bred son of multiple stakes sire Captain Courage from Remington Park Futurity winner Quick Moon Sign by Royal Quick Dash. Zimmerli is a half-brother to seven stakes horses.

Dillion Lane was the sale's leading buyer with the two purchases totaling $262,000. Judd Kearl, Agent had three purchases for $121,000 and Ranco La Cobra had two for $108,700.

Cox led all consignors and agents with 27 head grossing $800,400. Southwest Stallion Station had seven head gross $168,700 and Granada Farms, Agent for Johnny Trotter sold five yearlings for $119,500.

Heza Fast Dash was the leading sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with two head averaging $88,750. Apollitical Jess had two yearlings for $56,000 and Furyofthewind say two head average $47,000.
