SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 28, 2017—Mary G. Thompson and Pete Scarmardo paid $100,000 for Hip 142 Deal Em Quick, a brother to multiple stakes winner Dash Quick Perry in Friday's opening session of the TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio, Texas.

Ninety-five of the 150 head who passed through the ring on Saturday grossed $1,133,900 compared to last year's opening day gross of $1,031,000. The Texas-bred yearlings averaged $11,936 compared to last year's first session average of $11,943. The median price of $8,000 was the same as 2016's first session. There were 55 yearlings repurchased on Friday.

Consigned by Granada Farms, Agent for Pete Scarmardo, Friday's sale-topper, Deal Em Quick, is a Dealagame colt out of the stakes-placed and multiple stakes producing Mr Jess Perry mare Quickid Perry. The sorrel colt's brother Dash Quick Perry is expected to start as the fastest qualifier in Saturday's $156,600 Retama Park Derby at Retama Park.

Ms. Thompson paid $100,000 for last year's TQHA sale-topper, This Is An Eagle, who won the 2017 Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity and has banked $197,630 with a perfect 3-for-3 record this season.

Alejandra Carrion paid $57,000 for Friday's second high-seller, Hip 141 Joyzoom, a daughter of Grade 1 stakes sire Azoom out of the Carters Cartel mare Lookin Foxy. The third dam is champion filly and All American Futurity(G1) winner and champion producer Strawberry Silk. Azoom Ranch is the consignor.

AQHA Champion trainer Judd Kearl signed a $40,000 ticket as agent on the third-high seller Friday, Jess Double Down, a gray son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry. Granada Farms, Agent for Bob and Jerry Gaston consigned the colt out of Double Down Darling, a stakes-producing half-sister to champion Double Down Special.

Mary Thompson and Pete Scarmardo was the leading buyer on day 1 with the one purchase for $100,000. Judd Kearl, Agent paid $77,000 for two yearlings and Alejandra Carrion had the one purchase for $57,000.

Bobby D. Cox was the leading consignor or agent in session 1 with 13 head grossing $241,000. Granada Farms, Agent for Pete Scarmardo had two head total $110,000 and Azoom Ranch had the one yearling at $57,000.

Dealagame was the opening session leading sire, by average with two or more sold, with three yearlings averaging $38,833. Mr Jess Perry had two head average $27,000 and Azoom had three yearling average $22,667.

Dash Master Jess was the leading first-crop sale sire, by average with two or more sold, with three yearlings averaging $7,200.

Saturday's second and final session for 2017, featuring hips 153 thru 304 will get underway in the Exposition Hall at the Freeman Center in San Antonio at 10:30 a.m.
