SHAKOPEE, MN—-JULY 15, 2017—Kowboy Jim, a homebred son of champion FDD Dynasty owned and trained by Dean Frey, is one of 10 sophomores entered back in Sunday’s 400-yard, $81,125 Canterbury Park Derby at Canterbury Park.
The fastest qualifier, Kowboy Jim is coming off of a wire-to-wire, 1 3/4-length victory in the first of three trials on July 2. The gelding has won four of eight starts, including four of five at Canterbury, and he has earned $33,669.
Kowboy Jim drew post 7 and will be ridden by Berkley Packer. His nine opponents include Bout Tree Fiddy, a homebred Ivory James gelding trained by Tomey Swan ffor owners Pat Swan and Carry Allred. Bout Tree Fiddy has won two of four outs this season, including the 350-yard, $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park on May 29.
Bout Tree Fiddy drew post 9 and will be ridden by Marcus Swiontek.
