LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 22, 2017—Princess Abigail Kawananakoa of Hawaii will have two Quarter Horse princesses in action in the form of Staggering Stride and Trippys Royal Jess in the $15,000 Indigo Illusion Handicap for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Nine races are on the card with first post following the final race at Santa Anita.

The two fillies are trained by Chris O’Dell and will come into this race after finishing 1-2 in the La Pacifica Handicap on May 12.

The filly by Mr Jess Perry filly was first across the wire on that night, as she held off Trippys Royal Jess by a half-length to win the 350-yard La Pacifica final. To be ridden by Cody Jensen, Staggering One also ran third in the La Primera Del Ano Derby when facing fillies and fourth in Los Alamitos Winter Derby when taking on the boys earlier this year.

The talented Trippys Royal Jess was fourth at the start of the La Pacifica before flying in the final yards to finish a strong second. To be ridden by Cesar De Alba, the filly by Apollitical Jess also ran second in the Seal Beach Handicap on January 28.

Renegade Racing and Spackman Racing’s Rayshas Pink Sky figures to be one of the top contenders in this event. The Dominyun filly posted the fastest 330-yard time of the meet when winning an allowance race in :16.52.

She also posted one of the fastest 300-yard clockings when scoring in another allowance in :15.31. Minor Arana will ride for Lin Melton. La Primera Del Ano Derby finalist Sweet Aguila, California Breeders Freshman Fillies Stakes winner Scholarly and recent allowance winner Doing Trix will also race.

The Indigo Illusion is named in honor of the 1983 AQHA champion 2-year-old filly. Indigo Illusion won 17 races and $867,417 during her brilliant career. Indigo Illusion died at the age of 26 on November 10, 2007.

Sold for $7,000 in 1982 at the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association Sale, Indigo Illusion went to win the $1 million Faberge Special Effort Futurity at Los Alamitos.

She also enjoyed great success as a broodmare, as she produced 10 winners, including Magic Dozen, Illusive Feature, First Place Dash and Streakin Sixes. Her foals won $562,510. Of those foals, First Place Dash sired 103 winners from 150 starters. His foals earned $4.6 million. Streakin Sixes earned over $77,000 on the track and has sired over 110 winners.
