SHAKOPEE, MN—-MAY 25, 2017—A total of 25 3-year-olds, led by John G. Johnson’s Faster Than Hasta, has been entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Gopher State Derby trials at Canterbury Park.

Trained by Robert Johnson, Faster Than Hasta will be making his season debut from post 4 in the last of three trials. A bay son of the Pritzi Dash stallion Hasta Be Fast, the gelding has earned $71,796 from eight starts, and his three wins include a neck victory in last year’s 350-yard, $71,000 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge in Iowa.

David Pinon will ride Faster Than Hasta on Saturday.

Fast N Famous Jeans, a stakes-winning colt by One Famous Eagle trained by Manuel Campos for owner Thomas G. Scheckel, will make his season debut in the first heat. Fast N Famous Jeans ended his juvenile campaign with a victory in the 350-yard, $157,000 Jim Bader Futurity (R) for Iowa-breds at Prairie Meadows.

Fast N Famous Jeans drew post 6 and will be ridden by Justine Klaiber.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the June 10, $20,000-added Gopher State Derby final.
