CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 24, 2016—Friday’s 12-race program at Will Rogers Downs will be dominated by trials for the Black Gold Futurity Championship (RG3) for 2-year-olds and the Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Mystery Derby (R) for state-bred sophomores.
Leonardo Alcala’s As And Js, a bay daughter of Apollitical Jess trained by Manuel Mata, is one of 55 juveniles entered in six 440-yard Black Gold Futurity Championship trials. The filly will be stretching out in distance off of her half-length victory at odds of 23-1 in the September 25, $303,000 Black Gold 350 Futurity (RG3) at Will Rogers Downs.
As And Js drew post 3 and will be ridden by Gerardo Garrido in the first heat. Her eight opponents in the first trial include Sarah Huskey’s Fdp Rock Solid, a graded stakes winning Rock Solid Jess gelding trained by Rick Robinson. Fdp Rock Solid has earned $53,174 from four outs, and his two wins include a neck win in the 350-yard, $112,000 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park on July 2
Fdp Rock Solid drew post 5 and will be ridden by Agustin Silva.
Preston and Karen Cloud’s Apollitical Scout, a sorrel Apollitical Jess filly trained by Clint Crawford, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Omar Reyes in the second heat. Apollitical Scout is coming off of a Ruidoso Downs summer campaign during which she won the 350-yard, $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) on June 12.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s Black Gold Futurity Championship trials will meet in the November 12, $303,000-guaranteed final.
Also on Friday, a total of 23 state-bred 3-year-olds has been entered in three 350-yard OHA Mystery Derby trials.
Mr James Quick, a stakes-winning Jesse James Jr gelding trained by Eddie Lee Willis for owner UN Stables, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Cody Smith in the third heat. Mr James Quick has banked $61,990 from seven outs, and his four wins include a half-length score in the 350-yard, $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds at Remington Park on May 29.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $25,000-added final on November 12.
