Nymph Looks For Her Fourth Stakes Win In Friday’s Newport Handicap

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 19, 2016—After facing older mares in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap on September 25, Nymph will look to score the fourth stakes win of her career when heading a solid field of 3-year-old fillies in Friday’s eighth race at Los Alamitos, the $16,000 Newport Handicap at 350 yards.

Owned and bred by Ed Allred and trained by Scott Willoughby, Nymph was one of only two sophomore fillies that competed in the $100,000 Mildred Vessels.

She did well, as she was among the leaders at the start of the 400-yard dash and eventually finishing a respectable sixth while taking on the likes of Allred’s champion aged mare Quirky, eventual Mildred Vessels winner Sass Me Blue and multiple stakes winners Apolitical Zoom, Bac In Front and Jess Good Reason.

Nymph has been a force when dealing with fillies of her own age. She’s already won three stakes races during her nine-race career, twice beating other fillies, first in the Emma Bug Handicap and then in the California Breeders Debutante Stakes. She also defeated that included colts and geldings in the $25,000 Corona Chick Handicap last Fall. The Foose filly out of Elans Last will start from post number three with Carlos Huerta aboard in Friday’s Newport Handicap.

Jose Flores and George Seward’s Kickin Seis figures to be a top challenger to win the Newport Handicap. The Tres Seis filly will enter this race after easily defeating sophomore fillies in her first start of 2016, the Fall For It Handicap on September 16. Prior to the Fall For It, Kickin Seis won three of seven starts last year, including a pair of allowance events here. Cruz Mendez will ride Kickin Seis from along the rail.

Dutch Masters III’s Summer Dynasty is another filly to watch in the Newport. The Missouri-bred daughter of FDD Dynasty ran second in the Fall For It and has finished first or second in all six of her starts this year. She was also the runner-up in the Wild Honey in early August. After racing from along the rail in the Fall For It, Summer Dynasty moves to the outside post number six for Friday’s main event.

The field will be completed by the stakes placed Strawfinders Jessee, the Turf Paradise stakes winner Shoulda Kiss Me and the Los Alamitos allowance winner Secondswitch.
