HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 21, 2016—A total of 45 3-year-olds, topped by stakes winner Silver Citizen, has been entered in Sunday’s 440-yard Hobbs America Derby (G3) trials at Zia Park.
A gelded son of Silver City (TB) trained by Miguel Pena for owner Santos Lopez, Silver Citizen is coming off of a 1 1/4-length victory in the August 13, 400-yard Mile High Derby at Arapahoe Park. Alejandro Medellin will ride the Texas-bred gelding from post 5 in the fourth of five trials.
Secretzzoom, a New Mexico-bred colt by No Secrets Here, drew post 2 and will be ridden by Jaime Leos in the second heat. Trained by Samuel Robledo for owner Valle Guadiana Corporation, Secretzzoom is coming off of a Ruidoso Downs campaign during which he scored a half-length victory in the 400-yard, $100,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes on July 11.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $200,000-est. Hobbs America Futurity final on October 9.
