Deep Bill Reed Memorial Starts Ultimate Ruidoso Downs Weekend

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 29, 2016—A deep field of 870-yard runners, including the come-backing A Tidal Delight, starts in the $20,000 Bill Reed Memorial to start the ultimate weekend at Ruidoso Downs on Friday afternoon.

The summer-long season concludes on Labor Day with the running of the Grade 1, $3-million All American Futurity. The 440-yard classic offers the world’s largest purse of any two-year-old horserace.

There are special post times throughout Labor Day weekend. On Friday through Sunday the first post time is 12 noon. On Labor Day, first post time is 12:30 p.m.

Curtis Guss’ A Tidal Delight makes his first start since last November at Zia Park. The Wave Carver-sired gelding won five-consecutive races before his extended lay.

Trained by Chris Zamora, A Tidal Delight concluded his winning streak with a neck victory over 870 yards in a $28,000 conditioned allowance race.

Owned by Javier Beltran, Tony Sedillo and Tommy Galvez; Kingsbury in in sharp form after winning the $20,000 Bobby Crenshaw at 1,000 yards by three-and-three-quarter lengths as the favorite on July 30.

The Sedillo-trained gelding has won four of eight starts this year and has been on the board seven times.

Francisco Giles rides the gelded son of FDD Dynasty with the second post position.

The stakes action heats up throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, the Ruidoso Sprint Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes is held.

On Sunday, the Grade 1, $2.4 million All American Derby and the Grade 1, $200,000 All American Gold Cup top the program. Also contested will be the $100,000 First Down Dash the $191,077 Rio Grande Senorita Futurity and the Red, White and Blue Claiming Stakes.

On Labor Day, the meet’s ultimate day, the Grade 1, $3-million All American Futurity is run as quarter horse racing signature race. Backing up the All American Futurity, is the $500,000 All American Juvenile, $152,974 Rio Grande Senor Futurity, $50,000 Ruidoso New Mexico-bred Thoroughbred Championship, the Tribute To The Troops Quarter Horse Claiming Stakes and the Labor Day Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes.
