SHAKOPEE, MN-—MAY 27, 2016—Eagles Span, a Grade 1-placed son of One Famous Eagle racing for Tom Maher and Bill Maher, is one of 17 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 400-yard Gopher State Derby trials at Canterbury Park.
Eagles Span has won four of his nine starts, including three of four at Canterbury. Trained by Jason Olmstead, the colt is coming off of a 2-year-old campaign in which he won two stakes and ran second, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Miss Feet Down First, in the 440-yard, $200,000 Southwest Juvenile Championship (G1) at Zia Park in New Mexico.
Cody Smith will ride Eagles Span from post 8 in the second of two trials.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from Sunday’s trials will meet in the $20,000-added Gopher State Derby final on June 12.
