99 Juveniles To Race In Trials To Richest Kindergarten Since 1987

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 1, 2016—If the trials to the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity are any indication then the futurities at Los Alamitos Race Course will be fantastic events in 2016.

A total of 99 juveniles have been entered to compete in 11 trials at 300 yards on Sunday with the hoping of qualifying to the $428,400 Kindergarten final to be held on Sunday, May 15.

The 2016 Kindergarten will be the richest running of the event since Runaway Winner won the $436,127 final in 1987. The final purse also represents a 46% increase from the 2015 running of the Kindergarten. First post time for the first of 11 trials on Sunday is 6:45 p.m.

The Kindergarten trials will include 14 horses which have already enjoyed a visit to the winner’s circle this year. Two of the trials, numbers five and seven, will feature a trio of maiden winners.

Trainer Paul Jones, who appears to have a powerful group of Kindergarten trialists on Sunday, will send out Veronica Gail Worth’s Red And Ready in the fifth trial on the night. The daughter of Walk Thru Fire filly and PCQHRA Breeders Futurity finalist Coronas Rouge was awesome when she debuted on April 17.

The Ed Allred-bred filly won her maiden race by two lengths and she had a daylight advantage from the word go. Rising star Roberto Hernandez will ride Red And Ready from the outside post nine while facing winners Imaloner, owned by Denny Boer, and Smell Perfume, racing for Dutch Masters III and Jaime Gomez.

Boer was part of the famous Dutch Masters III operation for many years and still remains great friends with Dr. James Streelman of Dutch Masters III. Imaloner, bred by Dr. Steve Burns, won his debut here by a neck for trainer Lin Melton. He’ll start from the inside of Red And Ready in this event. Imaloner is a Foose half brother of Kindergarten finalist Love Her First and the stakes placed runner Ought To Be Higher. Smell Perfume is a Foose full sister to 2015 La Primera Del Ano Derby and PCQHRA Breeders Derby winner Bac In Front and a half-sister to 2006 Governor’s Cup Futurity winner Checknbac. Her mother, Running Bac, won the 2002 Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap.

There are three trials with a pair of previous winners in action.

The sixth heat includes the well regarded Better Google Me, which is also owned by Veronica Gail Worth. Sired by One Famous Eagle and out of Better Bet On Me, the Vessels Stallion Farm-bred filly had the bullet drill on March 5 and the fourth fastest of 72 drills on March 19. She debuted with a daylight win on April 2 and has done everything perfectly for Jones.

“This filly was really impressive in her debut,” Jones said. “She’s just a professional. She breaks from the gate really powerful and fast. She runs nice and straight and runs fast down the track.”

Anna MacPherson’s AJS Anna Smoke won on the same day as Better Google Me and their times were nearly identical. Better Google Me won in :15.78, while AJS Anna Smoke got the job done in :15.79. They meet up in trial number six.

EG High Desert Farms’ Lupita and Bennett Mountain Ranch’s Cartels won their debuts and now meet in trial number nine.

Cartels, by Favorite Cartel and out of the Teller Cartel mare Wichita Cartel, recovered from a bump at the start to win his maiden by a head. He’s also from the barn of Paul Jones.

Jose Flores will saddle KT Summer Time Class in search of her second straight win when she runs in trial number 10. The Utah-bred Foose filly races for owner Alejandro Rodriguez.
