Sale Topper Staggering Stride To Debut On Friday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 29, 2016—Headed by Abigail Kawanakoa’s Staggering Stride, the high seller at the 2015 Los Alamitos Equine Sale, more than a dozen horses that are eligible to the $1 million Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza will be in action here on Friday night.

Purchased for a sale-topping price of $150,000, Staggering Strides is a filly by Mr Jess Perry out of Grade 1 stakes winning mare Dinastia Toll BRZ. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch, LLC, agent for John Andreini, Staggering Stride is a half-sister to champion FDD Dynasty, the winner of the 2006 Ed Burke Million Futurity and Go Man Go Handicap and Governor’s Cup Derby in 2007. Staggering Stride is also a full-sister to stakes winner and multiple Grade 1 finalist Solid Connection and a half-sister to 2015 All American Derby winner Apollitical Blood. Her fantastic family also includes stakes winners Fishers Destiny, Chaotic Cartel, and Apollitical Legacy.

Trained by Chris O’Dell and to be ridden by Rodrigo Aceves, Staggering Stride will make her career debut in Friday’s second race against fillies at 300 yards. She’ll be facing a field that includes La Dulce Vita, a filly by One Sweet Jess out of 2003 Governor’s Cup Derby winner Magic And Rhythm, and Sass You Blue, a filly by One Dashing Eagle out of the stakes winning Jess Sass Me. Sass You Blue is a half-sister to three-time Grade 1 stakes runner-up Sass Me Blue and stakes winner Jess Being Valiant. There are some impressive families being represented by the juveniles racing on Friday night.

Juan Aleman’s Apollitical Spirit will headline the field in Friday’s third race at 300 yards.Sired by Mr Jess Perry and out of the champion Grade 1 winning mare Apollitical Time, the colt is a full brother to 2010 World Champion and Champion of Champions winner Apollitical Jess. Bred by Julianna Hawn Holt, he’ll come into this race after posting a pair of solid :12.30 clockings in preparation for his debut.

J. Francisco Diaz’s Zee Oh Six, a Foose gelding out of 2011 La Primera Del Ano Derby winner Fall For It, and Lotta Blues Man, a Favorite Cartel colt out of 2011 All American Futurity fourth place finisher Lotta Love For Robyn, are among the competitors in this race.

The fourth race on Friday will include Jess Hawk, out of the stakes winning mare Merridoc Hawk, and Perrys Crystal, out of Crystal Sola, which ran second in the 2010 Remington Park Derby and a qualifier to the 2009 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Sunbeamssecretbeauty will also race in the fourth. She’s a half-sister to champion Hez Our Secret, which ran second in the All American Derby and Los Alamitos Super Derby in 2012. Hez Our Secret competed in 11 stakes races during his tremendous career and twice competed in the Champion of Champions. The sixth race will feature the Robert Williams-bred Illicitly Streakin, a colt by Apollitical Jess out of the champion and Grade 1 winner Flame N Flash, the winner of the Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap and runner-up in the 2012 Champion of Champions. Illicitly Streakin’s family also includes champions Hawkinson and Hawkish, a pair of stallions out of Ed Allred’s great broodmare Oh La Proud. Allred’s Aspiring, out of the stakes winning mare Moonlight Corona, and LD Is Back, a Walk Thru Fire colt out of the graded stakes winning mare Prima LD, will race in the sixth.

Talented Juveniles Head Saturday’s Racing Action

On the eve of a great night of trials to the $428,400 Kindergarten Futurity to be held on Sunday, a talented group of 2-year-olds will meet in one of the top races on Saturday’s card at Los Alamitos. First post is 6:45 p.m.

Seven talented juveniles will take part in the second race on Saturday at 300 yards and the list of runners is replete with talented runners. Vaughn Cook’s Eagle Appeals is one of the names to watch as this colt is a half-brother to champion millionaire and multiple Grade 1 winner Good Reason SA. Bred by Gianni Franco Samaja, Eagle Appeals comes in after posting a nice :12.40 work for trainer Paul Jones. The champion trainer knows this family well, as he saddled Good Reason SA to wins in the Champion of Champions and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.

The field will also feature Abigail Kawananakoa’s First Royal Tearoses, a gelding by One Dashing Eagle out of four-time Los Alamitos stakes winner Native Tea Rose. The late mare ran fourth in the All American Futurity and then won the Charger Bar Handicap, Matron Stakes and Las Damas Handicap here. Aztecpower, a colt by Walk Thru Fire out of multiple stakes winner Chalala, and Up For Dashing, a gelding by Kiddy Up out of Thinking Dash are two others to watch. Up For Dashing is a half-brother of Golden State Million Futurity finalist Thinking Jazz.
