Daytona B Heads Hialeah’s Sawgrass Stakes; 34 Sophomores Entered in So. Florida Derby Trials
Grade 1 winner Daytona B will face five sprinters in the $25,000 Sawgrass Stakes at Hialeah Park on Sunday.

HIALEAH, FL—FEBRUARY 3, 2016—Daytona B, a Grade 1-winning 5-year-old son of First Down Dash racing for Gregorio Garcia Garza, is one of six aged sprinters entered in Sunday’s $25,000 Sawgrass Stakes at Hialeah Park.

Daytona B brings a three-race win streak that includes a wire-to-wire, 1 3/4-length victory in the 440-yard, $354,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park on November 7. The gelding has won four of his five outs at Hialeah, including the December 26, 330-yard Bienvenido de Nuevo Stakes.

Daytona B drew post 5 and will be ridden by Francisco Ramirez Jr. for trainer Yoani Abreu.

The complete lineup for the Sawgrass Stakes, which will be run at the classic Quarter Horse distance of 440 yards, in post position order including jockey assignments--

South Florida Derby Trials

Enrique Carrion’s EC Jet One, a homebred colt by The Louisiana Cartel trained by Judd Kearl, is one of 34 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s South Florida Derby trials.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from these 440-yard trials will meet in the $100,000-added final on February 28.

EC Jet One is undefeated in two starts during the current Hialeah meet. The colt is coming off of a neck victory as the 17-10 favorite in the January 17, 400-yard Hialeah Derby.

EC Jet One will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo from post 9 in the last of four trials.

The leading trainer at the current Hialeah meet, Kearl will also send out Bryon Gardner’s Carters Sixty Six, a bay daughter of champion Carters Cartel. The filly has won both of her outs at the meet, including the 400-yard, $30,000 El Nino Stakes on January 17.

Agustin Silva will ride Carters Sixty Six from post 3 in the first heat.
