Forget It Heads Southern California Derby Trials On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 29, 2015—Dutch Masters III and Jaime Gomez’s Forget It and Francisco Vega’s Bac In Front will begin their individual quests to win a third derby at Los Alamitos in 2015 when they compete in the 400-yard trials to the Southern California Derby on Sunday.

A total of 23 sophomores will compete in the three trials on Sunday. The horses with the 10 fastest times will advance to the Grade 2 final to be held on closing night of the season, Sunday, December 20. Forget and Sass Me Blue, two of the top three finishers in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby on October 31, will headline the opening trial of the night. To be ridden by Carlos Huerta, Forget It has been the top 3-year-old of the meet not named Heza Dasha Fire. The Foose gelding has won six of eight starts this year headed by the El Primero Del Ano Derby and the Governor’s Cup Derby.

He was the favorite to win the PCQHRA Breeders Derby, but his connections decided to skip the race and instead they focused on the Los Alamitos Super Derby. Forget It won the Super Derby trial, but had to settle for third place behind champion Heza Dasha Fire and Lucky Seven Ranch’s Sass Me Blue. Now looking to qualify for his fifth derby of the year, A winner of $468,031 in his career, the Ed Allred-bred Forget It will start from post number three in this race.

Trained by Mike Casselman, Sass Me Blue figures to be Forget It’s main opposition in this race. The filly by Valiant Hero edged in the Super Derby and she also ran third in the Golden State Derby earlier this year. Bred by Lance Robinson and Max Anderson, Sass Me Blue has not won a race this season, but she’s finished in the money in all four starts and for her career she’s been third or better in seven of her eight outings.

Cody Jensen will ride her from post number one.

The opening trial will also feature Bruce and Jill Thompson’s Run By You and Allred and Steve Burns’ Cartels Big Gun, the third place finisher in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby.

Trial number two will be headlined by some of the best fillies on the grounds in the form of Bac In Front, Jess Cuz, The Perfect Love, Walk The Catwalk and Foo Who. Trained by Gomez, Bac In Front won the La Primera Del Ano Derby and the PCQHRA Breeders Derby and also ran second in the Governor’s Cup Derby. She’s looking to qualify for her fourth derby of the year. Double Bar S Ranch’s Jess Cuz has been of the surprises of the year. Trained by Elena Andrade, the Mr Jess Perry filly ran second in the Golden State Derby and then ran the race of her life when beating older mares when second to the red-hot mare Quirky in the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap.

The final trial will include Allred’s Discontent, the winner of the Governor’s Cup Futurity last year and the Town Policy Handicap in his last start. Scott Willoughby trains the Separatist gelding. Other top names in this trial include Famous Bank, third in the El Primero, and Spender, a winner of five of six starts in 2015.
