Rich Gordon Mobley Futurity Tops Stakes-Laden Holiday Program at Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JULY 3, 2015—A full field of 10 2-year-olds has been entered back in Saturday’s 300-yard, $199,200 Gordon Mobley Futurity (R), one of five Quarter Horse stakes scheduled for Indiana Grand’s Fourth of July holiday card.

Beach Bum Eddie, the fastest qualifier, drew post 9 and will be ridden by Jose Beltran for owner Anthony Cunningham, who also trains the gelded son of the Corona Cartel stallion Escondido Beach. Beach Bum Eddie broke his maiden with a one-length victory in the second of five trials on June 13.

Second-fastest qualifier My Louisiana Rod made her debut with a 1 1/2-length win in the fourth trial. The La Jollaroid filly drew post 3 and will be ridden by Juan Guerrero for owner and trainer Randy Smith.

Jaguar Rocket Futurity

BV I Know You Rider drew post 2 for Saturday’s 300-yard, $132,700 Jaguar Rocket Futurity (R) for Indiana-bred 2-year-olds.

The fastest qualifier, BV I Know You Rider is a son of Teller Cartel racing for Fred and Carolyn Helmut’s Bella Vista Farms LLC from the barn of trainer Randy Smith. The gelding has earned $9,350 from two outs, and his two wins include a one-length victory in the first of three trials on June 12.

BV I Know You Rider will be ridden by Juan Guerrero in Saturday’s final.

Heartland Futurity

Woop Dee Doo, a gelding by Good Reason SA owned and trained by Ricardo Martinez, is the early favorite for Saturday’s $82,320 Heartland Futurity.

Cristian Esqueda has been named to ride Woop Dee Doo from post 10 in the 300-yard stakes. The runner-up to The Serge Protector in the March 21, 300-yard Oklahoma Futurity Invitational Stakes at Remington Park, the gelding set the fastest Heartland Futurity qualifying time with his 2 1/2-length victory in the first of two trials on June 13.

Indiana Grand Classic Stakes

Fierce Runaway, a 6-year-old daughter of champion Ocean Runaway owned and trained by Salvador Rojas, will attempt to defend his title in Saturday’s 400-yard, $40,000 Indiana Grand Classic Stakes.

Fierce Runaway is coming off of a 2014 season in which the mare earned $46,581 from five starts, and her three wins included a head victory as the 7-10 favorite in last year’s Indiana Grand Classic. The mare drew post 5 and will be ridden by Rolando Pina.

Bradford Stakes

The ageless Finche, a gelded son of champion Tres Seis racing for Chris Sheehy and trainer Larry Abney, will make this second start of his 10-year-old season in Saturday’s 400-yard, $40,000 Bradford Stakes.

Finche returns to Indiana from Oklahoma, where the gelding ran second, three-quarters of a length behind winner This Wagons Okay, in a 300-yard allowance-optional claiming ($20,000) dash at Remington Park on May 7. Finche has won eight of 26 races, including the 2013 Bradford Stakes, and he has earned $301,675.

Shanley Jackson will ride Finche from post 5.
