El Damazo is Morning-Line Choice for SunRay’s Animas Stakes

FARMINGTON, NM— JUNE 30, 2015— El Damazo, a graded stakes placed son of Desirio, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Sunday’s 400-yard, $35,000 Animas Stakes for 3-year-olds at SunRay Park.

El Damazo races for Daniel Balderrama, Juan Castro, and Sergio F. Castro from the barn of trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. The colt has earned $114,712 from seven starts, and his race record includes second-place finishes in last year’s West Texas Futurity (G2) and this year’s West Texas Derby (G3), both at Sunland Park.

El Damazo is coming off of a third-place finish, 1 3/4 lengths behind winner Mad About The Moon, in the May 31, 350-yard Conquistador Stakes at The Downs at Albuquerque. The colt drew post 8 and will be ridden by Alonso Rivera.
