Richest Race In Oklahoma Headlines Saturday’s Mega-Card At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 28, 2015—The Grade 1, $1,170,000 Heritage Place Futurity is the main event of a loaded Saturday night program at Remington Park. The first race is at 5pm (CDT).

The 12-race “Mega-Card” features eight stakes races and total overall purse money of nearly $2.4 million. The richest program of racing ever at Remington Park, and in Oklahoma racing history, will end with eight consecutive stakes events in races five thru 12.

The Heritage Place Futurity is the first 2-year-old race of the year worth more than one-million dollars. It will go as the ninth of 12 on Saturday night with an approximate post time of 8:52pm. The field of 10 qualified over two nights of 350-yard trials activity on May 11 & 12. Here is a brief look at each competitor, and their connections, by post-position and program number order.

Owner/Breeder: James Sills and Abel Flores, Cedar Hills, Texas
Trainer: Eddie Willis

Easy trial winner on first night of qualifying to gain first career victory… She competed in trials for the Remington Park Futurity in April but did not qualify… Jockey Jose Vega is the only rider she has known as he has handled her in all three of career attempts coming into the Heritage Place Futurity… Trainer Eddie Willis has won the Heritage Place Futurity twice (2007 & 2009) and is the only trainer in the field with a win in the event. Shaken Pappasito will be his only starter this year… She would provide her Owners and jockey with their initial win in the race should she prevail… The broodmare sire of Shaken Pappasito, Dashin Is Easy, won the Heritage Place Futurity in 1997.

2 BV Midnite Express, 8-1 morning-line odds

Jockey: Russel Hadley

The gelding has won two career races by 1-1/2 lengths. Owner: El Cabresto Racing Stables, Monett, Missouri

Jockey: Paul Nieto

Scorched her rivals in winning her trial by 2-1/4 lengths for her first career victory. She is owned by Sara Morgan, a 19-year-old who just finished her freshman year at Oklahoma State University. Trainer Duke Shults, 26, is Sara’s older brother and is in his first year as a full-time trainer after assisting many other trainers in recent years. A Tres Of Paint was bred by the Mixer Ranch of Edmond, Okla., operated by the siblings’ mother, Dr. Jill Mixer… A Tres Of Paint is out of broodmare First Painted Sign who won the historic Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park in 2006… All of the connections seek their initial Heritage Place Futurity triumph.

Owner/Breeder: Francisco Garza, Laredo, Texas
Trainer: Rick Robinson

The undefeated gelding may be a tad smaller than some of his Heritage Place Futurity competitors but his athleticism and determination more than make up for and discrepancy in size. Impressive in his Oklahoma Futurity trial in early March, Tee Chic battled and won the final by a head. He rested until his May 12 Heritage Place Futurity trial where he again was spectacular in winning by 1-3/4 lengths… The speedster would give all of his connections their first Heritage Place Futurity victory… Tee Chic was the top qualifier for the Oklahoma Futurity and also the top qualifier from night two of Heritage Place Futurity trials… If he wins the Heritage Place Futurity, he would become the first Oklahoma Futurity winner to do so since the Oklahoma was moved to Remington Park in 2006.
