New Mexico Spring Futurity winner Jess Cruzin On By will head 10 trials on Friday for the $339,520 Mountain Top Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 24, 2015—The leading New Mexico-bred two-year-olds – headed by New Mexico Spring Futurity winner Jess Cruzin On By – start the second weekend of the Ruidoso Downs season in the 10 trials to the $339,520 Mountain Top Futurity on Friday at Ruidoso Downs.

The horses with the 10-fastest times are eligible for the 350-yard finals on June 13.

First post time is 1 p.m. and racing runs on a Friday through Monday schedule each week. There is always free parking and free general admission.

Yaneth Cabrera’s Jess Cruzin On By looks to take the step to the second stakes win on his young career when he starts from the eighth post position in the second trial.

Jess Cruzin On By set the second-fastest qualifying time and broke his maiden at first asking in his Spring Futurity trial at Sunland Park. He was timed in :15.489 for the 300 yards while facing a 15 mile-per-hour head wind.

In the Spring Futurity, the field benefitted from a six-mile-per-hour tailwind and Jess Cruzin On By sped to a three-quarter-length win in :14.956. The Jesse James Jr-sired colt was sent off as the 7-5 favorite.

Trainer Fernando Gamez will have Adrian Ramos, who was up for the Spring Futurity win, in the saddle.

Also attracting attention in the trials will be New Mexico Spring Fling Futurity runner-up Teana Fay (first trial) and $410,000 Oklahoma Futurity finalist Gon In A Flash (third trial). There were no supplemental nominees.

On Saturday, the 870-yard specialists come out to compete in the $30,000 Fine Loom Handicap.
