Honors On The Line In Highly Competitive National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 22, 2015— An extremely talented field of Paints and Appaloosas will meet in the starting gate to battle 440 yards in Saturday’s National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes. Remington Park seasonal honors could be on the line with an early jump at national awards also in the balance.

Cant Be Caught, the Appaloosa with a seven-race win streak, is the 7-5 morning-line favorite. The 3-year-old will break from the number-two post position in the field of seven and is seeking his 11th career win from just 13 attempts.

Jockey Randy Wilson returns to ride Cant Be Caught after a two-month hiatus due to injuries sustained at the beginning of the season. Wilson has ridden Cant Be Caught in four of the seven victories in the current streak. Owned by John Diediker of Parsons, Kan. and trained by Jeff Dean, Cant Be Caught will try 440 yards for the first time.

Leaving the starting gate from just inside of Cant Be Caught is the 2014 Remington Park Horse of the Meeting, Major Tom. The 4-year-old Appaloosa won the National Cowboy and two other stakes races here last year to claim the top season honor. However, 2015 has not been as spectacular as Major Tom has been beaten in both of his attempts so far, finishing second in each. He was a half-length behind Cant Be Caught in the Mister Lewie Memorial Stakes in April. Jockey Jose Vega will have the mount Saturday.

Texas Silk, the 2014 World Champion Paint, returned to his top form with a victory in April’s American Paint Classic Derby at Remington Park. Like four of his other foes, he will try the 440-yard measure for the first time and will take on older rivals for just the second time in his career.

After winning the Speedhorse Graham Futurity at Remington Park and then the Fair Meadows Paint/Appaloosa Futurity at Fair Meadows in Tulsa last year, Texas Silk was poised to sweep the Paint/Appaloosa Futurity Triple Crown. His bid was foiled by Cant Be Caught in October in the Lone Star Park Paint/Appaloosa Futurity. Jockey James Flores will have the call on Texas Silk for the first time on Saturday night.

The field for the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum Stakes, with trainer, jockey and morning-line odds:

  • Major Tom (Ap), Eddie Willis, Jose Vega, 2-1
  • Cant Be Caught (Ap), Jeff Dean, Randy Wilson, 7-5
  • If Ur Buyn Im Flyn (Pt), Ty Blackwell, Alex Baldillez, 10-1
  • Call Him Awesome (Pt), Christian Rubalcava, Paul Nieto, 20-1
  • Major Mac (Pt), Brian Muse, Raul Gutierrez, 8-1
  • Texas Silk (Pt), Jeff Dean, James Flores, 5-1
  • Show Me Your Glory (Ap), Charley Hunt, Stormy Smith, 15-1

The National Cowboy race is the eighth of 12 on Saturday night with an approximate post time of 9:02pm. The first race of the night goes at 6pm. All times Central.

Sunday afternoon, top Oklahoma-breds will compete in four stakes races.

  • The $70,000 East Date Stakes is for older fillies and mares at 350 yards in race six.
  • The $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes is for 2-year-olds at 330 yards
