SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 2, 2015—PYCs Little Lady, a graded stakes winner during the current Sunland Park meet, is one of 53 sophomores entered in Friday’s 400-yard West Texas Derby (G3) trials.
A bay daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon owned by Heysol Howlet, PYCs Little Lady will be making her first start since December 26, when she outran her 17-1 odds to win the 400-yard Sunland Park Winter Futurity (G3). The filly has earned $98,077 from seven outs.
PYCs Little Lady is trained by Jaime Dominguez. The filly will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez from post 9 in the second of six trials.
Corona The Cat is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the fifth heat. A Corona Cartel colt owned by San Gregorio Racing Stable and World Champion Racing Stable and trained by James J. Gonzales II, Corona The Cat is coming off of a 2-year-old campaign in which he qualified to the $2.079-million Los Alamitos Two-Million Futurity (G1) and $1.031-million Golden State Million Futurity (G1).
Corona The Cat, an $88,000 buy at the 2013 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Felipe Garcia-Luna.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $65,000-added West Texas Derby final on Saturday, March 28.
