Heza Dasha Fire Going For Historic Win In Sunday’s Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 12, 2014—The stage is set for S-Quarter K LLC’s Heza Dasha Fire to run for a spot in the history books of American Quarter Horse racing, as the son of Walk Thru Fire looks to become the first horse to win the $1,000,000 Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza in Sunday’s running of the $2,078,775, Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on Sunday night. First post is 5:30 p.m. with the Two Million set for 9:02 p.m.

The Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza serves as the track’s version of the Triple Crown and consists of the Ed Burke Million Futurity, the Golden State Million Futurity, and the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Heza Dasha Fire, who is undefeated in six career starts, has already won the Ed Burke Million and Golden State Million and a victory in the Two Million will earn him the $1,000,000 cash bonus that comes with the Bonanza.

Heza Dasha Fire is not only looking to become the first Bonanza winner, he could also become American Quarter Horse racing’s all-time single season leader in earnings. If he wins the Los Alamitos Two Million, Heza Dasha Fire will earn $842,425 for winning the race, plus the $1 million bonus to bring his 2014 total to a record $2,664,977. Heza Dasha Fire would also move into second place in the all-time earnings list, only $116,388 behind all-time leading money earner Ochoa.

Bred in Washington by S-Quarter K LLC, which consists of Don and Kathy Meneely and their adult son, Shawn Meneely, Heza Dasha Fire will enter the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity as the co-fastest qualifier and the 4/5 morning line favorite when he starts on Sunday from post number one.

The gelding won the Ed Burke Million from post number one on June 22. He also won his maiden race and his trial to the Golden State Million from post number two. No horse has been within a half-length of him at the wire in any of his first six starts and in three of those races he’s won by a daylight margin. Heza Dasha Fire overcame being bumped hard at the start of the Golden State Million final, but he still rallied from fifth place to win by a half-length. He won his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity by ¾ lengths over PCQHRA Breeders Futurity winner BF Farm Boss and Golden State Million Futurity finalist Streakin Regard.

“He’s a monster,” said Ed Burgart, the track announcer and morning line maker at Los Alamitos.

“We thought that he would be able to make some money, but we never envisioned that he would be as good as he has become,” said Don Meneely after the Two Million trials. “We are proud of his accomplishments, but one of the most impressive things about him is that he has stayed reasonably sound. He has picked up a few minor nicks here and there, but nothing serious. He takes care of himself and I was impressed with how he gained some weight after the Golden State Million final. We’re excited about this race. All we can ask is to have a chance to be in the Los Alamitos Two Million.”

Heza Dasha Fire won his 400-yard trial race in a time of :19.55, which was the co-fastest of trial night.

Rancho El Cabresto, Inc’s Apollitical Blood equaled Heza Dasha Fire’s time when he won his trial by a half-length over fellow Two Million qualifier Corona The Cat, who posted the fourth fastest time.

The third fastest clocking went to Ed Allred’s He Looks Hot, who enjoyed the most lopsided victory among the finalists when he won his trial by 1 ¼ lengths. Trained by Scott Willoughby, He Looks Hot covered the distance in :19.56. He was third in the Governor’s Cup Futurity earlier this year.

Apollitical Blood and Bodacious Eagle both participated in the All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs earlier this year. The colt from the first crop by world champion Apollitical Jess was fourth in that race, while Bodacious Eagle, who is owned by Johnny Trotter, came in fifth place. Bodacious Eagle also participated in the Rainbow Futurity and Ruidoso Futurity, an outstanding accomplishment to make all three major juvenile races at the New Mexico track. Trained by Cody Joiner, Bodacious Eagle was second to Treasured Dreams in the trials.

Racing for La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC, Treasured Dreams crossed the wire ahead of the highly accomplished Bodacious Eagle at Los Alamitos and was second to eventual All American Futurity winner JM Miracle in a trial race to the Rainbow Futurity in New Mexico on 4th of July. Also by Apollitical Jess, she’ll start from the outside post 10 on Sunday.

La Feliz Montana will also be represented by Bogart in this event. After finishing second in three starts at Ruidoso Downs, the colt by Corona Cartel broke his maiden at Los Alamitos on October 11. He then came back to finishing second to He Looks Hot in the trials, but more importantly he qualified with the 8th fastest time.

Trained by Mike Robbins, who won the Champion of Champions with World Champion Sgt Pepper Feature in 1982 and with World Champion Dashs Dream in 1984, Jess Walking Thru will start right alongside Heza Dasha Fire from post two on Sunday. Jose Amador Alvarez will ride the Walk Thru Fire filly owned by Gary and Linda Gordon and Ross Roark. Jess Walking Thru crossed the wire second in the Dash For Cash Futurity earlier this year.

Donald and Peggy Boyle’s BF Farm Boss and Dutch Masters III and Jaime Gomez’s Forget It will complete this outstanding cast. BF Farm Boss, a colt by Hawkinson, has posted some tremendous efforts this year, like his 1¼ length victory in a trial to the Ruidoso Futurity and a 2¼ length win in a trial to the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. He won the Breeders Futurity by rallying from sixth place to win by a head. He was ninth at the start of the Two Million trials, but made another super move to run second to Heza Dasha Fire. If he breaks cleanly and not too far away from the earlier leaders, BF Farm Boss will be a major late threat in this race.

Champion and millionaire Higher Fire, also a daughter of Walk Thru Fire, is the last horse to run in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity with a chance to cash in on the Bonanza. The filly ran a heartbreaking second to longshot Value The Man on that night for the connections of trainer Jaime Gomez and owner Dutch Masters III. The Foose gelding Forget It will now look to play the role of Value The Man for Gomez and Dutch Masters III as he looks to thwart Heza Dasha Fire’s quest for the Bonanza on Sunday night.

10 Face Off In $35,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Stakes

A quartet of Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity trial winners will headline the running of the 400-yard, $35,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational on Sunday night. A full field of 10 will be in action with the Juvenile Invitational scheduled as the fourth race on the card.

The four Two Million trial winners in action will be Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Hot Shot, Robert Williams’ Face The Mark, RTM Stables and George Weldon’s Ynot Walk, and LEMA Racing Stables’ Apollitical Legacy.

Of the four, Hot Shot (by Walk Thru Fire) had the fastest time of :19.80 in the 400-yard trials. Hot Shot won his trial by a neck over the highly regarded Dutcher, a gelding by Apollitical Jess. Face The Mark posted an easy 1¼ length win in his heat, while Apollitical Legacy nosed out a victory. Ynot Walk was a 1¼ length winner on trial.

The Juvenile Invitational will also feature trial runner-ups Bouncer, Tallulah Moon, and Dutcher. The field will be completed by multiple stakes finalist Off Beat, Eyesa Good One, and Jess One Kiss.
