Stablemates Face-off In Grade 3 Las Damas Tonight

LOS ALAMITOS, CA— NOVEMBER 21, 2014—Multiple stakes winner Significant Heart and champion Check N Fetch, the winners of the last two runnings of the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap, will headline a strong field of mares competing in the Grade 3 $25,000 Las Damas Handicap(G3) on tonight (Friday) at Los Alamitos Race Course. Both are from the barn of champion trainer Paul Jones.

The Las Damas is the sixth and final leg of the Pick 6, which will feature a Pick 6 Carryover of $17,636. With new money expected to be wagered in the Pick 6 on Friday figuring to be around $40,000, the total pool in the Pick 6 could be nearly $60,000. First post time on Friday is 7 p.m. with the fourth race being the opening leg of the Pick 6.

Trained by Jones for Abigail Kawananakoa, Significant Heart ran a tremendous race when finishing a neck ahead of defending Mildred Vessels winner Check N Fetch in this year’s running of the $150,000 event for mares.

Significant Heart has previously faced the opposite sex in the trials and final to the Vessels Maturity. Significant Heart also won the Miss Princess Handicap against fillies and mares on May 11. A victory in this event would give Significant Heart three stakes victories against distaffers this season. Cesar De Alba will pilot her from post number eight.

Jones other entrant, Lorena Velazquez Rodriguez’s Check N Fetch, is still looking for her first win this season. A winner of six of 11 starts last year, including five stakes wins at three different distances, Check N Fetch has been second in all three of her starts this season.

In addition to running second in the Mildred Vessels, she also finished second in the Grade 2 Charger Bar and in the Merial California Distaff. Ramon Sanchez will be aboard this very quick mare.

The field will also include La Primera Del Ano Derby winner Fiesty Flo and Sadie Sis, who has won her last two outings impressively. Six other top mares will also race.
