HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 21, 2014—A field of 12 state-bred distaffers, including two also-eligible entries, has been entered in Wednesday’s 400-yard, $140,000 New Mexico Fillies and Mares Championship (RG1) at Zia Park.
Bobby Simmons’ Foxy Moonflash, a 3-year-old daughter of First Moonflash and the 5-2 morning-line favorite, drew post 5 and will be ridden by G.R. Carter Jr. Trained by C. Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath, the filly has won three of her last four starts, including the 400-yard, $207,000 New Mexico Cup Derby (RG2) at Zia Park on October 26.
Other contenders include Jill Giles’ Penny Snatchin, a graded stakes winning 3-year-old filly by champion Gone To The Mountain. Conditioned by Wes Giles, Penny Snatchin will be making her first start since August 24, when the filly scored a three-quarter length victory in the 400-yard, $60,000 Pelican Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred sophomore fillies at The Downs at Albuquerque.
Penny Snatchin drew post 10 and will be ridden by Salvador Martinez.
