Heza Dasha Fire Heads Grade 1 Golden State Million On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 30, 2014—S-Quarter K LLC’s Heza Dasha Fire looks to keep his hopes for a Triple Crown alive when he goes after the second leg of the $1,000,000 Los Alamitos Cash Bonanza in the Grade 1 $1,031,100 Golden State Million Futurity at 400 yards. First post time on Sundays is now 5 p.m.

To be ridden by Cruz Mendez, Heza Dasha Fire enters the Golden State Million with a perfect record in four starts. He became eligible to win the Cash Bonanza after winning the Ed Burke Million Futurity in spectacular fashion in late June. The West Coast’s top ranked 2-year-old was outstanding in the Golden State Million trials, as he posted the fastest time of the night of :19.496 on October 19.

If he adds the Golden State Million to the Ed Burke Million, Heza Dasha Fire will be one of victory away from becoming the first winner of the Cash Bonanza. The third and final leg of the bonus program is the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity to be held on December 14.

First things first, as Heza Dasha Fire will need to be at his best in the Golden State Million. Bred in Washington by owners Don, Kathy and Shawn Meneely, the son of Walk Thru Fire looked sharp in his trial while making his first start since his Ed Burke win four months ago.

"We are extremely pleased with (his trial) race," Don Meneely said. "We were just hoping to qualify because we didn't know how he would do after a long layoff. The bottom line is that this horse is pretty talented. He was very impressive and we hope he stays this way. This horse is as sound now as he was before his very first race. We put a patch on the inside of his left leg because we realized that he hit himself there during the running of the Ed Burke Million. We had to take care of that because if they keep hitting themselves during the running of a race it might make them stop running."

The field to the Golden State Million will also feature Rancho El Cabresto’s Apollitical Blood, the fourth place finisher in this year’s All American Futurity. The son of Apollitical Jess ran in the Ed Burke Million earlier this year.

One of the best storylines of the race features Double Bar S Ranch's Straw Dawg, the 10th fastest qualifier to this race. Trained by Paul Jones, Straw Dawg is the son of the late outstanding stallion Strawfly Special. One of the all-time great Quarter Horse stallions, Double Bar S Ranch's Strawfly Special had no foals registered between 2006 and 2012. Three foals were born in 2012 after some Strawfly Special semen was discovered in storage at Texas A&M. Straw Dawg is one of the three foals. His mother is the former Los Alamitos track record holder Reida Hay Worth.

Rancho El Cabresto also owns Oneapolliticalflight, who finished second to Heza Dasha Fire in the Ed Burke. Oneapolliticalflight will now look to spoil the party for Heza Dasha Fire in the Golden State Million. Corona The Cat, Luv Supreme, Streakin Regard, Runaway Fire, Chicanery, and Princess Pily will complete the field.
