Talented 2-Year-Olds In Action In Cash Rate

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 20, 2014—Take A Look and Old Six Six, a pair of runners that posted strong efforts on California Breeders Champions Night, will lead the way in the running of the $15,000 Cash Rate Handicap on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Seven freshman will be in action in the Cash Rate and six of the runners will come in fresh off a winning effort. Owned by Ed Allred and trained by James Glenn, Jr., Take A Look won the Freshman Stakes for Fillies on Champions Night and she did it in style. The daughter of Separatist won the race by a half-length over a field that included the multiple winning filly Tavarua. Oscar Peinado will now take over the mount aboard Take A Look.

Ronald Skeen and Fawna Knight’s Old Six Six just missed winning the Freshman Stakes for colts and geldings on Champions Night. The gelding by Walk Thru Fire bumped in that race, but still had the lead with 100 yards to go. He was eventually caught by Bouncer, but a repeat of that effort should put Old Six Six right in contention for the win again. Cesar De Alba will ride for trainer Mark Skeen.

Two For Real, Carters Quick Dash, Cartel Breeze each enter this race after a local allowance victory. Racing for Jesus Romaro Villalobos, Two For Real was outstanding in her allowance effort, as she lead most of the way en route to a 3/4 length victory. She’s the only one in this field that comes in with back-to-back wins.

Jose Avalos will saddle Two For Real and also Janet McKinnerney’s Carters Quick Dash. The latter posted a 3/4 length allowance win in his last start and will for a solid 1-2 punch for McKinnerey in this race. The owner also campaigns Find Your Beach, who beat $16,000 claimers in his last start.

Valynn Miller’s Micks Storm Fordough beat allowance rivals in his last outing, but that victory came at Wyoming Downs. He previously ran in the Ed Giles and Beehive futurities.
