HOBBS, NM—SEPTEMBER 16, 2014—Martin C. Ybarra Jr.’s Eagle On The Fly is one of 61 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s Hobbs America Futurity (G2) trials at Zia Park.

A bay daughter of One Famous Eagle and a $51,000 buy at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, Eagle On The Fly is trained by Umberto Belloc. The filly has won three of four outs and has earned $99,000, and her stakes record includes a third-place finish in the 400-yard, $900,000 Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs on July 20.

Eagle On The Fly will be ridden by Cody Jensen from post 3 in the first of seven 400-yard trials.

JM Famous Master, a Kansas-bred colt by PYC Paint Your Wagon, is the 7-5 morning-line favorite in the second heat. Owned by Javier Marquez’s J & M Racing and Farm of Monahans, Texas, and trained by Belloc -- the same connections who won the September 1, $2.6-million All American Futurity (G1) with JM Miracle -- JM Famous Master placed third, a half of a length behind winner Boi George, in the April 13, 300-yard West Texas Futurity (G2) at Sunland Park.

JM Famous Master has won two of five races and has banked $50,739. Jensen has been named to ride the colt from post 1.

Other prominent entries in the trials include Luis Rogelio Nava’s Redneck Baptism, a sorrel daughter of Wave Carver trained by Gene Burden. Drawing post 7 in the fifth trial, the filly will be making her first start since April 12, when she broke her maiden with a half-length victory in the 300-yard, $50,000 West Texas Juvenile Stakes at Sunland.

Sergio Becerra Jr. will ride Redneck Baptism on Saturday.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $80,000-added Hobbs America Futurity final on October 5. Past winners of the stakes, which began in 2005, including champions Brenda Beautiful (2008), First Klas Fred (’09), and Feature Mr Bojangles (’11).
