A total of 94 2-year-olds have been entered in the Black Gold trials, topped by stakes winners Cartel Rosie, Vod Kanockers, and Spit Curl Trey. A brown daughter of Carters Cartel owned by Gary Hess and trained by Brian Muse, Cartel Rosie drew post 7 in the fourth of 10 trials. The filly has won two consecutive races, including the 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) at Remington Park on May 31.
Vod Kanockers drew post 3 in the first heat. The gelded son of champion Stoli, who races for Philip Brassfield from the barn of Ty Blackwell, had a Remington campaign in which he won two of four starts, including the 350-yard, $50,000 Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) for Oklahoma-breds on June 1.
Spit Curl Trey is coming off of a nose victory in the 350-yard, $15,000 Cherokee Nation Stakes at Fair Meadows at Tulsa on July 26. A sorrel gelding by Spit Curl Jess, he races for the Looking for Gold Racing Partnership from the barn of trainer Rodney Reed. He drew post 6 in the seventh trial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $150,000-added Black Gold 350 Futurity final on September 6.
