Eight Sophomores Entered in SunRay’s Animas Stakes

FARMINGTON, NM—APRIL 14, 2014—Grade 1 winner WR Golden Eagle is one of eight 3-year-olds entered in Sunday’s 400-yard, $35,000 Animas Stakes, the season’s first Quarter Horse stakes at SunRay Park.

A homebred daughter of One Famous Eagle racing for Rose Webb of Farmington, New Mexico, WR Golden Eagle has earned $142,507 from five starts, and her two wins include a head victory in last year’s 300-yard, $280,194 West Texas Futurity (G1) at Sunland Park.

John Stinebaugh trains WR Golden Eagle, who will be ridden by Efrain Vigi from post 7 in the Animas.

Other Animas contenders include Famous Edge Of Glory, a graded stakes placed One Famous Eagle gelding campaigned by Richard E. Ford from the barn of trainer Lonnie Vaughn. A $35,000 buy at the 2012 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Famous Edge Of Glory is coming off of a Sunland campaign in which he won two of four outs and ran second to Bye Bye Eagle Eye in the December 27, $140,583 Sunland Park Winter Futurity (G2).

Famous Edge Of Glory drew post 4, and he will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. on Sunday.

The Animas Stakes has been carded as the eighth race on SunRay Park’s nine-race program. Estimated post time for the stakes is 4:18 p.m. (MDT). The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments—
