Paint Me Rusty Heads West Texas Juvenile Invitational Today

SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 12, 2014—Marty Neugebauer's Paint Me Rusty has been installed as the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the $50,000-Guaranteed West Texas Juvenile Invitational at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino today (Saturday).

The race will pit 10 two-year-olds head-to-head in their second lifetime starts in Race 4 at the Southeastern New Mexico raceway. Non-qualifiers to the Grade 2 West Texas Futurity were preferred invites by trial times to the 300 yard event.

A $43,000 Ruidoso Select Sale yearling, Paint Me Rusty enters the race off a second place effort in the trials to West Texas Futurity(G2) qualifier Encore For James. Wesley T. Giles will saddle the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly out of the stakes-winning Royal Quick Dash mare Rustys Quickid.

The bay miss is a sister to Retama Park Derby(G3) runner-up Paint Me Quickid ($135,441) and half-sister to three other stakes horses. Larry Gamez will be back aboard Paint Me Rusty from the 7 position.

Redneck Baptism (4-1) will start from the 3 position under jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr. Luis Rogelio Nava owns the Wave Carver filly trained by Gene Burden. The Colorado-bred out of Redneck Cowgirl, by The Signature, was a nose behind Paint Me Rusty in the March 21 trials.

The only winner in the field, Perfect Menace (6-1) will race for owner/breeder Ramon Solis, Sr. and trainer Jose Ramos. Edgar Martinez rode the Phantom Menace colt to a neck win in his first start, posting the 17th fastest time from the 87 starters in the March 21 trials.

David Hinkins, Gary Thompson and Mike Abraham's First Moonflash filly Aylin (6-1) finished second to West Texas qualifier El Damazo in the trials. Emilio Cadena III conditions the $42,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling graduate.

Also set at 6-1 is What We Gonna Do Is, a Royal Shake Em filly owned-and-trained by Alfred Sanchez. The sorrel miss was second to Cc Kachina Eagle in her debut. Tanner Thedford has been tapped to ride.
