LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 12, 2013—Ten sophomore sprinters will be in action in one of the most competitive fields in the history of the $25,000 Dillingham Handicap at 400 yards on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
The full field will be headed by 2013 stakes winners High School Secrets, who posted a neck victory in the James Smith Memorial Handicap in his last start, and Chaotic Cartel, who edged Dillingham contenders Agent of Move and French Fury, in the Buena Park Handicap on March 30.
The Dillingham will also feature El Primero Del Ano Derby finalist Tiny Flying Corona, 2012 stakes winners Sugarbear Sax Man and Secretly Famous, plus the talented sprinters Ric Oh Shay, Mane Event and Stel Heights. Racing for James Azevedo and Boyles Family Trust, High School Secrets is the richest horse in the field with $61,641 from four wins in 12 career starts. The gelding by No Secrets Here ran in the Ed Burke Million Futurity last year and the Los Alamitos Winter Derby prior to his victory in the James Smith. Cesar De Alba, who also piloted Chaotic Cartel to victory in the Buena Park, will ride High School Secrets from post number six. Paul Jones will saddle the gray gelding.
John Andreini’s Chaotic Cartel will enter the Dillingham riding the wave of a four-race win streak. The Corona Cartel gelding won allowance races on December 30 and February 9 before scoring a hard-fought victory in the Buena Park. Ramon Sanchez, who piloted Chaotic Cartel to his maiden win last year, will ride him for Jones.
Angel Villalobos’ French Fury, a gelding by world champion Stoli finished second in the Buena Park after a dead-heat with Agent Of Move. He was also second in the James Smith and prior to that he ran in the $125,000 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes. Already a two-time winner at Los Alamitos this season, French Fury will start from post number eighth.
Parsons Family Limited Partnership’s Tiny Flying Corona was third in his El Primero trial and seventh in the final. The gelding was a 1-1/4 length maiden winner last summer. Cesar Muniz’s Sugarbear Sax Man won the Autumn Handicap last year and was fifth in the El Primero with a very event effort. He’ll start from the rail in the Dillingham.
La Botella Racing Stables’ Agent Of Move won the Sweetwater Futurity in Wyoming last year and has since made three starts against stakes rivals at Los Alamitos. He finished nicely to dead-heat for second in the Buena Park in his last start. Ric Oh Shay, meanwhile, was third in the James Smith in his last outing after winning his prior three starts.
