Toughie Draws Clear In Edmonton Bonus Challenge Stakes

EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 25, 2018—Under jockey Ricardo Moreno, 5-year-old Toughie drew clear Wednesday night to defeat Ima Running First by a one-length in the $8,840(US) Edmonton Bonus Challenge Stakes (not black type) at Northlands Park. Cruisinfourabruisin finished a neck back in third.

Saddled by trainer William Leech, Toughie completed her task in :16.744 seconds to equal a 101 speed index for the 330 yards. It was the 16th career win for the 5-year-old daughter of Stel Corona and the $4,172(US) winners' purse boosted her earnings total to $177,904.

The multiple graded stakes winning California-bred mare races for owner Charles G. Stojan. Edward C. Allred bred the chestnut runner from the Hawkish mare Hard Lining.

Racing for owner-breeder Wesley T. Oulton, Ima Runnin First collected $2,311(US) for his second-place effort. The son of leading Canadian sire First Timber is out of Ima Jess Streaker by Streakin La Jolla. The Alberta-bred stakes winner has compiled a (15) 2-4-5 record and earned $40,864.

Third-place finisher Cruisinfourabruisin picked up $1,066(US) for his third-place effort. A homebred racing for owner/breeders Barry and Janice Sather, Cruisinfourabruisin is also a son of First Timber. Janice Sather conditions the graded stakes winner of 17 races who has banked more than $160,800. Also bred in Alberta, the 6-year-old is out of the Royal Evening Snow mare Tagulator.
