Paint Me Southern Tops Ajax Bonus Maiden Challenge Trials

AJAX, ONT—MAY 27, 2018—Under a hand-ride by jockey Ed Watson, Paint Me Southern won the second of two trials by 1-¼ lengths on Sunday to set the fastest time for the Ajax Bonus Maiden Challenge at Ajax Downs.

It was the second consecutive win for the daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon owned by Milena Kwiecien and conditioned by trainer Jason Pascoe.

Paint Me Southern covered the 300 yards in :15.640 seconds, to earn a 92-speed index with a 9 mph tailwind.

Bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches, LLC, the brown 3-year-old filly is out of Bp Southern Policy by Southern Policy. She has compiled a (9) 2-1-0 record and earned $11,894.

Another Oklahoma-bred filly, High Rate Of Run, posted a 1-½ length win in the first trial to get the second fastest time of :15.670 seconds, a 91 speed index.

Carol McIntyre saddled the daughter of leading third-crop sire High Rate Of Return for owner Big Dog Racing Stables. Bred by Debbie Strebig, from the Stel Corona mare Moonlight N Her Eyes, the bay filly has won two of five career starts and earned $6,820.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the two trial races will return to Ajax Downs on Sunday, June 10th to vie for the winners' share of an $18,333-added purse going 300 yards.
