OGDEN, UT—MAY 19, 2018—Multiple stakes winner Joe Legacy went gate-to-wire, after nearly a three-year layoff, to defeat Lt Heza Winner by three-quarters in the $11,700 Utah-AQHA Bonus Challenge (not black type) Saturday at Weber Downs. Bay Max finished another three-quarters back to take third.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Canales, Joe Legacy completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.712 seconds, a 102 speed index, to bank the $6,136 winners' purse.

Trainer Jere Brinkerhoff saddled the 7-year-old son of Brookstone Bay for owner Greg Torgerson. Bred in Utah by The Running A LLC, Joe Legacy made his 2018 debut on Saturday, making his first start since finishing sixth in the First Down Dash Handicap at Los Alamitos December 19, 2015.

The bay gelding spent most of the 2015 racing season at Los Alamitos Race Course where he won the Laguna Beach Handicap and competed in the Grade 1 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Championship and Grade 1 Go Man Go Handicap.

Out of the Striking Distance mare A Diamond Legacy, Joe Legacy has compiled a (29) 7-3-4 record and earned $86,794.

Trainer Diana Garfias saddled runner-up Lt Heza Winner for owner Aron Saenz. Oscar Cervantes rode the Tom Peterson Utah-bred son of Winners Version from the Separatist mare Nurturist. Third in the Utah-bred Futurity last year, Lt Heza Winner picked up $2,714 for the effort. He has earned $14,409.

Third-place finisher Bay Max is a multiple stakes winning son of Dashair from the Thoroughbred daughter of Olympio, Weekend Traffic. Ryan Christensen conditions the 3-year-old for owner-breeder Casey Woolstenhulme. Jesus Virgin was aboard to earn $1,357 and bring Bay Max's earnings total to $34,618.

Jb Corona Heart, Alma The Younger, Mypassionsspeed, Js Blaze Away, Rgr First To Fire, Flash N The Girls and One Sweet Dance completed the field.
