Dauns First Desiro Romps In Adequan PM Derby Trials

ALTOONA, IA—SEPTEMBER 2, 2017—Coming off a second-place effort in the Arapahoe Park Derby on August 12, Dauns First Desirio romped to a 2-˝ length win in the last of three trials Saturday for the $27,500-added Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge.

Ridden by jockey Daniel Valles the son of champion sire Desirio completed the 400 yards in :19.575 seconds, a 97 speed index, to post the top qualifying time.

Julio Corral saddled the bay gelding to his third career win for owner Rogelio Carbajal Santos. Santos paid $46,000 for Dauns First Desirio at the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale earlier this year.

Bred in Texas by Dan and Jolene Urschel, from the First Down Express mare First Daun Express, Dauns First Desirio has compiled a (9) 3-3-2 record and banked $31,818.

Corral also saddled second fastest qualifier Attack The Wind for owner Cesar Nunez. Valles rode the son of Walk Thru Fire to a three-quarter length win in the second trial to post a :19.896 clocking, an 89 speed index.

Steve Burns DVM bred Attack The Wind in California from the Corona Cartel mare Attack The Cartel. Winner of the Golden State Juvenile last year, the gelding has earned nearly $50,000.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return Saturday, September 16th to vie for the winner's share of the purse over 400 yards. Also at stake is a starting spot in the $180,000 Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) October 14th at Prairie Meadows.
