Daytona B Races to Big Win In Adequan Derby

Q-RACING JOURNAL—OCTOBER 18, 2014—Daytona B found the winner’s circle only once in his first eight career starts, but the First Down Dash gelding now has two stakes wins at Prairie Meadows in a span of just more than a month after taking the $202,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) on Saturday night during the Bank of America Challenge Championships.

Last month the Texas-bred took the Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge.

In his latest win, the gelding broke sharply and hit the wire a length in front while clocking 400 yards in :19.300 under jockey Yordanis Amaro. Rolando Almanza trains the sorrel for owner Gregorio Garcia Garza. Bred by Bielau Oaks, Daytona B now sports a record of 10-3-2-1 with earnings of $155,401. Hie is out of the multiple stakes winning Toast to Dash mare Dashing Pana.

“He is a powerful horse and ran even better tonight than a month ago here at Prairie Meadows,” said Amaro.

Jerry Windham’s homebred Mister Big had his four-race win streak snapped with a second-place finish. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the Shazoom gelding for trainer Charley Hunt. He earned $40,000 for the effort.

Cesar Dabdoub’s Eyesa Famous Eagle, who shipped in from Los Alamitos, finished third with G.R. Carter Jr. up for trainer William Harris. Bred in Texas by Burnett Ranches, LLC, the One Famous Eagle gelding picked up $20,000 for the effort.

Completing the field were Spit N Salt, Zoomin Daphne, Raising Kain, Db Captain King, Wicked Valentine, Kansas Morning, Sign Of Corona and Zip Code.
