Prairie Meadows will host trials for the Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge on Friday's race card.

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 27, 2014—Daytona B, a graded stakes placed First Down Dash gelding racing for Gregoria Garcia Garza, is one of 15 3-year-olds entered in Friday’s Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge trials.

Trained by Rolando Almanza, Daytona B drew post 5 in the second of two 400-yard trials. The gelding has earned $44,138 from seven outs, and his season record includes a second-place finish to Mister Big in the April 19, $167,000 Sam Houston Derby (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.

Yordanis Amaro has been named to ride Daytona B in Friday’s trial.

Daytona B’s six opponents in the second heat include Rose Bode’s Foose On Fire, a gelded son of champion Foose trained by Randy Smith. Foose On Fire has banked $63,586 from 10 races, and his five wins include a neck victory in last year’s $71,000 Governor’s Stakes at Indiana Grand Racecourse.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will square off in the $30,000-added Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge final on September 13. The winner of that race will earn a berth in the October 18, $200,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) at Prairie Meadows.
