CINCINNATI, OH—AUGUST 10, 2014—Pescado Fuerte hit the gate but recovered quickly to run down Speed Smith by a neck in the $14,850 Queen City Dash Bonus Challenge at Belterra Park Sunday afternoon.
Ridden by jockey Christian Esqueda, Pescado Fuerte completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.080 seconds to earn a 122 speed index. The $8,910 winner's purse boosted the multiple stakes winner's earnings to $65,739.
Speed Smith had to settle for second, earning $2,970 for owner Cesar Rosales. Julio Almanza trains the Prime Talent 6-year-old out of Speedy Empress by First Down Dash. Sylvia Shaw Pitman bred the brown horse in Texas. Yordanis Amaro had the riding assignment.
Luminaro stumbled at the start to but managed to finish third a neck behind Speed Smith. Also trained by Almanza, the Separatist 6-year-old is owned by Cueramaro Racing Co. Bobby D. Cox bred the horse in Texas from the stakes winning Royal Quick Dash mare Quick Moon Sign. Gabriel Lagunes rode to earn $1,485.
Shamu Moon, Braggs Hero and This Ones For Rudy completed the field.
