Stel Surprise(s) Field in RMQHA Championship Bonus Challenge

AURORA, CO—AUGUST 10, 2014—Starting at 35-to-1 odds, Stel Surprise defeated Famous Wear by head to collect the winner's purse in the $20,000 RMQHA Championship Bonus Challenge Stakes at Arapahoe Park Sunday afternoon.

Jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr. kept the 3-year-old filly in hand after breaking on top. She completed the 400 yard course in :19.684 seconds, a 96 speed index. It was the fourth win 13 career starts for the Stel Corona filly that rewarded her backers with a $72 win payoff. Uriel Delgado conditions the bay for owner Uriel Mata Rivas.

Martha Wells bred Stel Surprise in California from the Make It Anywhere mare Making Surprise. The filly came to Colorado at the end of June after competing mostly in claiming races at Los Alamitos. She was claimed from Wells for $2,500 at Los Alamitos Race Course in February when she won by one length. Today's $12,000 winner's purse doubled her bankroll to $23,037.

Alejandro Chavez saddled Famous Wear, who broken-in at the start, for owner Juvenal Sanchez. Mitchell Ranch bred the One Famous Eagle gelding in Texas from the Special Effort mare Special Wear. Ridden by Russell Vicchrilli, the sorrel gelding earned $4,000.

Im Beau Brown, a Pyc Paint Your Wagon 4-year-old, finished one-length back in the show position for owner Desiderio Nava. Gustavo Rios trains with Ramiro Garcia getting the riding assignment. Bred in Missouri by Larry Kist, Im Beau Brown is from the This Snow Is Royal mare Special Smoothie. He picked up $2,000 for the effort.
