OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 24, 2014—Saturday’s 870-yard Red Cell Remington Distance Challenge (G3) trials have drawn 12 horses.

The eight fastest qualifiers will meet in the $50,000-added final on May 11, and the winner of that race will earn a berth in the Grade 1, $100,000 Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows in October.

Bullard Farms’ Fire On The Fly, a homebred 4-year-old Jet Cartel gelding trained by Tommy Bullard, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in the first of two trials. Fire On The Fly is coming off of a Sunland Park meet in which he won two of his three outs, including the March 30, $50,000 Red Cell Sunland Distance Challenge (G3).

Omar Reyes will ride Fire On The Fly from post 5 on Saturday.

Steve A. Holt’s De Passem Okey is one of six entered in heat 2. Trained by Rodney Reed, the 8-year-old gelded son of champion Okey Dokey Dale was the AQHA champion distance horse in 2010 and ’11.

De Passem Okey’s five opponents in the second trial include JK Running Horses LLC’s Mixed Fantasy, a grey 4-year-old Okey Dokey Fantasy gelding with a four-race win streak that dates back to September 20, 2013. The gelding, who is trained by Kenny Laymon, has won all three of his outs at the 870 distance, including last year’s $25,000 Covered Bridges Stakes (G3) at Prairie Meadows.
